padman” starring akshay kumar and Radhika Apte was released on February 9, 2018, in India and across the world.

Akshay – A Gutsy entertainer

India is a nation of unending hypocrisy, and nothing can be more grossly evident when we talk about menstruation. So it would require a lot of grit for Akshay to make a film which is based on a cyclic happening which is well known to every girl but is least understood by most men. “Padman” was to be released along with “Padmaavat”. However the producers of “Padman” graciously postponed their release to a later date.

Trade Analyst gave a thumbs up to the movie by giving a rating of four out of five.

He wrote on Twitter, "OneWordReview...PadMan: WINNER. Realistic. Inspiring. Engaging. Deeply moving... A big THUMBS UP."

The film is directed by R Balki and also stars sonam kapoor and Radhika Apte in pivotal roles. Akshay Kumar has recently hosted a special screening of the film where he invited I & B minister Ms. Smriti Irani who was all praise for Kumar’s film. It was refreshing to see the young firebrand minister of Mr. Mody’s cabinet talking freely about a subject which is still taboo in the society.

“Padman” also sees Twinkle Khanna a.k.a. Mrs. Khiladi as a producer and since the day the film has been announced, it has ruffled quite some feathers.

The latest storm which has swept the social media is the #Padman Challenge where celebrities are posing with a sanitary pad and removing unwanted misgivings about the menstrual cycle.

Touch the raw nerve of audience

Akshay Kumar is also a smart operator and knows when to touch the nerve of the audience. Of late, he has been focusing on meaningful cinema with an eye for profit.

The Khiladi has worked in films like “Toilet –Ek Prem Katha”, where he dealt with the scourge of outdoor defecation. Earlier he made “Airlift” which chronicled the life and work of Mr.

Mathews during the invasion of Kuwait by Iraq.

Akshay Kumar is leaving no stones unturned to create a buzz about “Padman”. Fellow actors have also chipped in and are participating in the #PadManChallenge and the list becomes longer with each day. Riteish Deshmukh, Esha Gupta, and Jackie Shroff.

Mallika cries foul

The film is getting its fair share of controversies. Taking a cue from Swara Bhaskar’s open letter to Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Mallika Dua wrote on Instagram that the “Padman Challenge “ is nothing but a waste of clean Sanitary Pad and addresses a target audience from the middle class.

If you do not remember Mallika Dua, a few month backs she had a tiff with Khiladi Kumar and is trying to getting the scores even.

The film was also watched by the real “Padman” Arunachalam Muruganathan who was overcome by emotions and told the press that he has once again relived his life and the actor has flawlessly depicted his life on the screen.

"PadMan" does not end the hypocrisy associated with the menstrual cycle but it also throws a number of questions like the question-How can you be called a man if you cannot protect your wife?

Radhika Apte amply supports Akshay Kumar in the first installment of the flick while Sonam Kapoor takes on the stage after the interval.

Padman won’t release in Pakistan

The movie won't have a release in Pakistan for reason best known to them. According to a theater owner, "Well, you know how the mentality is in our Asian men towards periods and they don’t want to discuss this as it’s a taboo. Sadly.”

Sony goes all out to promote ‘Padman’

Sony which has the distribution rights to the film is doing everything it can for the promotion of the film. They know the importance of promotion of any movie in its initial days. “The idea is to be optimum in terms of where we want to go, we are looking at about 2,500-2,700 screens in India itself,” said Vivek Krishnani, managing director, Sony Pictures. Sony also wants to take advantage of Tuesday being a holiday for Shivratri.
