The list for the 90th Annual Academy Award Nominees was declared a few days ago. This marks the beginning of the Oscar season and the show will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel for the second consecutive year.

The front runners

With 13 nominations, "The Shape of Water" is leading the race followed by "Dunkirk" with eight, and "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" with seven nominations.

"The Shape of Water" has also achieved a rare feat by getting nominated in all the technical categories which was previously achieved by only five films namely "Titanic," "Master and Commander," "Hugo," "Mad Max: Fury Road" and "Revenant," making "The Shape of Water" the 6th movie to enter this prestigious list.

This year will be special as great Directors like Christopher Nolan and Guillermo Del Toro are nominated for the first time along with new ones, Jordan Peele and Greta Gerwig. Only Paul Thomas Anderson has been nominated previously for his movie "There will be Blood," but the award was won by The Coen Brothers for "No Country for Old Men." So, this year we will surely witness the Oscar in new hands.

With two wins and 10th nominations, Hungary enters the race with "On Body and Soul" whereas Sweden enters with "The Square" as their 16th nomination looking to make their 4th win.
