South Indian megastar Rajinikanth's much-awaited Tamil movie "Kaala" will be released on June 18, 2018. The film's producer Dhanush, who is also the son-in-law of the superstar revealed the release date on Twitter.

The film was originally scheduled for an April 27 release, but the date was postponed after there were strikes in Tamilnadu from the film industry.

The strikes are going on for the last 48 days, and a huge number of Tamil releases are pending.

The exorbitant hike in ticket rates during the release of star films has been one of the notable issues in Tamil Nadu.

The film association of Tamilnadu has urged the movie producers to stick to their release schedules.

Kamal Haasan’s ‘Vishwaroopam 2’ is speculated to release before ‘Kaala,’ but the date of release is not finalized yet. Another big clash has been averted as the "Kaala" release date comes just a week before Salman Khan's "Race 3" which is scheduled for June 15 release.

The film stars Rajinikanth as Karikaalan, Nana Patekar, Samuthirakani, Eswari Rao, and Huma Qureshi. The flick is also facing legal challenges after Sundar Mishra, the foster son of gangster Haji Mastan, threatened that "Kaala’s" filmmakers should refrain from depicting his father in a negative light, and if they did, they would face consequences.

However, director Ranjith dismissed the film was a biopic of Haji Mastan and explained that the story was completely fictional. The film is expected to break all box-office records of the superstar's last film "Kabali" which grossed more than Rs 500 crores worldwide.
