When a man heckles a woman and she cries for help in a local train in Mumbai but nobody dares to stand up for her instead shamelessly record the whole incident. Even if they know each other but can the mute spectators be called humans?

This was one such incident but we come across many crimes against women every day where people just watch and enjoy.

Nobody has forgotten that a girl from Delhi University screamed for help in a moving bus when she found out the man sitting next to her masturbated but no one paid much attention to her.

When Nirbhaya case happened people were outraged just like today for Asifa, an 8-year-old girl who was brutally raped and killed.

The young Asifa was held captive in so-called sacred place 'temple' and murdered in Rasana village of Hiranagar tehsil of Kathua.

Her post-mortem report had already confirmed that she was drugged before being raped by different men.

The investigations also revealed that it was not a random crime but part of revenge to drive out the Bakarwal community from the Rassana village in Kathua.

The family even abandoned their home out of fear after Jammu Bar Association called a strike against the manhandling of Asifa case by J&K police.

Today, the nation is on the boil. Be it political parties, film stars or a common man, all are speaking in one voice for the young Asifa i.e. #JusticeForAsifa.

Kathua is not just a rape case but a crime against humanity. Bollywood celebrities came out in support of Justice For Asifa.

This is not the only case but in the past too, several incidents have shaken the conscience of people.

Apart from Kathua, Unnao case too has jolted the Centre and Yogi govt.

What is Unnao rape case?

The victim tried to immolate herself outside Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's house for no action against BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar and his other accomplices after they allegedly raped her. The family alleged that BJP MLA Sengar along with others raped their daughter last year and the family members were thrashed on filing a complaint against the accused in the case.

In a video, victim's father confessed that BJP MLA Sengar's brother Atul assaulted him in front of police officers.

And then days later the father died in police custody.

Allahabad HC pulled up Yogi govt and said the victim's father would have been alive if police had acted upon the victim's complaint on time.

Finally, BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar had been sent to seven-day police custody for allegedly raping a 17-year-old.

Amidst much furor and outrage around the safety of women in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath broke his silence on Unnao rape case. He said the case has been referred to the Crime Branch of Investigation and also assured that the govt would not compromise on the zero-tolerance policy, it has been following against crime and corruption.

Sadly, rapes are no longer treated as crimes against humanity but an excuse for political parties to gain stronghold against their opposition parties. Like, Unnao and Kathua rapes have been given communal color.

And, we call ourselves a civilized society... Shame!
