Everyone chases after happiness, but who really understands it? The answer: is not so many people. According to the research, a number of people worldwide of all ages suffer from depression, mental health, and other diseases.

The truth is, there's no such thing as "permanent" happiness. In fact, you can't feel happy unless you have something to compare it to. When we talk about happiness, we think about staying happy all the time with zero negativity.

However, cultivating much more happiness in your life is a very real and close possibility. Here are steps to shake off your sadness and feel happy;

Stop trying to be happy - Just be

It's natural to want to be happy as often as possible.

So what can we do? First, throw away the belief that a perfect life means happiness. Personally, I would be miserable if everything was perfect.

Stop chasing permanent happiness. What I mean is, accept that there will ups and downs throughout life. Happiness is a fluctuation of positive and negative events. Being able to create growth and meaning out of both positive and negative events - that is the true meaning of happiness.

Do something kind for someone else

Helping other people is one of the greatest joy in life. Helping others open you up to new sides of yourself. It helps you to connect deeper with those you help and humanity in general.It clarifies what really matters in life.

Early to bed and early to rise

Waking up early allows you to proactively and consciously design your day.

In your morning routine, you can pray/meditate, exercise, listen to or read inspiring content and write in your journal.

On the flip side, getting a healthy amount of sleep is linked to;

  • Increase memory
  • Longer life
  • Lower stress
  • Low risk of depression
  • Increase productivity

Do what makes you happy

Trying to figure out such heavy questions like "what is my purpose in life" it's much easier to turn on the television and let the day go by.

The most important thing you can do to increase your level of happiness is by effectively reducing the amount of any unnecessary decisions you have to make in a day.

Meditation

Many of us know that meditation can be beneficial, but did you know that is actually one of the most convenient ways to make a drastic improvement in your mental health and physical wellness?

Practicing mindful meditation is good for more than peace of mind. It can actually change your life.

Read books

Everything you read fills your head with new bits of information, and you never know when it might come in handy.

When you read the book, all your attention is focused on the story - the rest of the world just falls away, and you can immerse yourself in every fine detail you're absorbing.

No matter how much stress you have at work, in your personal relationships, or countless other issues faced in daily life, it all just slips away when you lose yourself in a great story.
