India is enthusiastic about empowering its farmers. This month, a series of initiatives were announced by the government to boost agriculture in the country. Prime Minister Modi even promised to double the income of farmers by 2020.

At the “North Zone Regional Farmers Fair 2018” held in Varanasi on Friday, Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare Radha Mohan Singh reiterated Modi’s remarks of doubling farmers’ income. On India’s 75th Independence Day, farmers in the country will see a new kind of boost for the agri economy, he said.

New technology

Indian agriculturists will be exposed to new modes of agriculture, scientific approaches, and innovative agri tech to enhance and improve their output. The minister said that experts are working on technologies that will guarantee sustainable income not just in agriculture, but also in fisheries, poultry, animal husbandry and horticulture.

The minister said that the government has implemented several agriculture-centric programs, such as Farmer First, Mera Gaon, Mera Gaurav and Arya. Research in agrotech is being conducted to teach agriculturists the best practices to cultivate crops and increase their income, he added.
