This week, K-drama fans are paying a special tribute to the SongSong Couple.
For the loyal fans of Hallyu, February 24 is a special occasion, for on this day in 2016, KBS aired its pilot episode of the military romance, “Descendants of the Sun.” Nobody knew that the 16-episode drama would go on to become a global phenomenon. The drama had a simple plot line; there were no jazzy sets or glamorous costume. However, when the first episode aired on KBS, the fans were floored not just in South Korea, but across the world. The lead pair, Song Joong-Ki and Song Hye-kyo displayed a chemistry so magical that fans started shipping them right away.
Song Joong-Ki played a soldier, and Song Hye-Kyo, an army doctor.
Both baby-faced actors started trending not only in South Korea, but in China, Philippines, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore as well. Asian communities in the U.S, UK, Canada, and Europe were also hooked on to the show. Fans on social media platforms like Weibo, Twitter and Facebook are paying tribute to the DOTS team by rewatching the K-drama. Photos and videos of the star couple from “Descendants of the Sun” are once again trending on social media.
Here are some reactions from SongSong fans.
