The Congress and the CPI (M) have been planning to move an impeachment motion against Dipak Misra, Chief Justice of India (CJI). The parties said that Misra misused his position and that there’s no other way to protect the Constitution except through impeachment.

The parties meet Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu to take action against Misra.

Salman Khurshid of the Congress said that action against Misra is too serious a matter to be played with frivolously.

“The Impeachment motion against CJI Dipak Misra is a brazen attempt to threaten judges all over India that if verdicts don’t match Congress (I) expectations their jobs are not safe.

This when they are in opposition. Now imagine how they misused judiciary under UPA,” said a user on Twitter.

Seven opposition parties, led by the Indian National Congress, on Friday submitted a petition for the motion seeking removal of CJI Misra on grounds of ‘misbehavior.’

Many say that former prime minister Manmohan Singh showed spine and refused to sign the irresponsible impeachment motion of the Congress against CJI Misra.
