There was little bounce in the surface and Australia's fast men struggled to find much assistance.
AK Markram failed to open his account even after playing 17 balls and got out for a duck. D Elgar was unbeaten with a well-played half-century (50). Josh Hazlewood grabbed both the wickets for Australia.
The hosts made two changes to their line-up, Temba Bavuma returns from injury and he replaced Theunis de Bruyn, and Morne Morkel replaced Lungi Ngidi. Australia did not tinker to the squad that featured in the first two Tests.

Markram dismissed for nought, but Amla and Elgar are in the middle right now, trying to revive the South African innings. Which way will this session go?
