It was a bitter-sweet victory for Saina Nehwal, especially after the unsavory incident in which her parents were denied a ticket to Gold Coast to see their daughter play. However what ends well as well, and the grateful nation must give its gratitude that Saina did not let the incident affect her concentration.
Saina dedicated her victory to her parents and the nation. Her parents were elated after she beat world no 3, P.V. Sindhu to clinch the individual woman’s singles badminton gold medal.

Saina also expressed happiness for holding her nerve and defeating fellow compatriot.
Saina has been suffering from injuries right from the Olympics but has managed to bounce back to the game.
This time around it was Sindhu who got injured and recuperated. She had to miss a couple of matches but was able to subdue her opponents in Singles matches in the run-up to the finals.
PM Modi congratulates Saina

In fact, Saina termed her Commonwealth Gold next to her Bronze medal in Olympics. She reminisced how she had to pull out of Rio Olympics after a knee injury which required surgery.
She even thought at a stage that it would be the end of her story as regards competitive badminton.
Full credit to her physio and coach who always egged and she was playing in six months. By the end of a year, she was at her prime self and performance. In the CWG she had the extra burden of playing the mixed doubles since PV Sindhu was recuperating from her injury.
